“How would you like to hold a star, hug a giant, or nuzzle a
nudibranch?” That’s
how we described our summer vacation plans to the three little girls
who were to accompany us to the Oregon coast. Excitedly, three
grandmothers began to gather the things we would need for our
adventure. Three cousins–our granddaughters–began a count-down
toward the day school would close for the summer.
It
was cool but sunny when we arose the first morning of our trip, so Auntie Susie
took the girls to the beach see the ocean for the very first time,
wearing their sweat suits and galoshes.
There were many lessons to be learned on the first day.
The first lesson for the grandmothers was that little girls
on the beach in their clothes WILL get their clothes wet!
New rule–girls
MUST be in a swim suit when they go to the beach.
