Little Post Office in the Vale

Bridal Veil Post Office

We pulled off I-84 on exit 28, and slowed down to enjoy the beautiful sights along the Historic Columbia River Gorge Highway.  Rounding the first corner we spotted a tiny cabin in a clearing at the base of a towering basalt cliff.  Humble in its appearance with its wooden porch, unpainted siding, and boxed geraniums out front, it would not have attracted our attention except for our nation’s flag flying proudly above it.

Curious we turned in to the dirt parking lot and stopped.  A carved and hand-painted sign below the eaves of the roof declared, “U. S. Post Office, Bridal Veil, 97010”  We knew this had to be something special, so we stepped inside.
